Raising Goats Holistically
Since 2022
Nestled in the beautiful mountains of northern Idaho, Rain Lake Ranch works to provide the goats with the best, natural care possible. I avoid using chemicals unless necessary and do my best to keep their food as natural as possible. I believe that this encourages long-term health and also translates directly to the quality of milk received.
During the summer, our goats get the opportunity to forage down by the lake. They absolutely love this. Throughout the year, they are provided free choice, high quality, alfalfa and grass hay. Our milkers are fed a locally grown and milled grain that is non-GMO, no soy, no hormones, no corn, no added sugar, no animal byproducts, and no hidden ingredients.

We test annually for CAE, CL, Johnes, Tuberculosis, and Brucellosis. We also periodically test for worms through Meadow Mist Labs. This allows me to know if and exactly what type of worm I am dealing with. I will only treat when necessary and with the correct wormer on the correct schedule for that particular type of worm. This helps to prevent the worms from developing immunities to medications. The health of our herd is of utmost importance.
Our Story
Local Family Farm
I, Kayla, have been involved with animals since I was a young child. I grew up with dogs, horses, cats, guinea pigs, rats, rabbits, and dwarf hamsters. For most of my childhood, I worked with a local rescue group where I rehabilitated abused dogs and delivered many litters of puppies from abandoned pregnant mommas.

In 2010, I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. I have been on every single medication currently available to treat Crohn's. Each and every one has failed to control my severe flares. Upon getting dairy goats, I noticed a change in my stomach. The goats milk seemed to soothe my intense pain. The next time I realized I was about to have a flare, I stopped eating food and only drink my raw goats milk for 24 hours. The flare went away. That was the first time I had been able to curb a flare without doing a long and intense course of Prednisone. That was a HUGE win for me.

So as you might guess, goats have become a prominent passion of mine. I am dedicated to learning more every day and working to improve the breed with each breeding I do. My goal is to have the kids turn out better than their parents in at least a few aspects. I strive for quality - not quantity. Each goat is individually loved and cared for, so any kids that come off our farm will be very used to and love human contact.
